33.2 Million AFFECTED. 5th Major cause of DEATH. 6 people dies and 12 new born gets affected EVERY MINUTE. 100 billion per year is spent on treatment and prevention on AIDS , but what do we have ART or HAART ( anti retroviral therapy) which is costly and have side effects like effects ( toxins , heart failure , kidney failure, fails is one year …..) and 90 % can’t afford it . “UN” flopped in its millennium goals, how much we can rely for this UNAIDS!
What is being done? What can be done? What should be done?
As youth we should ask ourself these questions. Are we not responsible for someone having AIDS or not? All needed is leadership and action. Giving suggestions won’t help, making them happen WILL?
As I see whenever we talk about AIDS the first thing that comes in our mind is condoms, instead of giving huge push to use condoms we should talk about ethics and spirituality. We should teach the young ones about the importance of these. Spirituality is the way to find, meaning, hope, comfort and inner peace in your life. Spirituality is not taught in the schools and that is why the young generation should be made to know the superiority of mind over matter. The importance of human values like love, compassion, truth, honesty, righteousness and empathy. Spirituality teaches us the core values of life, the real essence of us. For this spiritualism is the only tonic and not just AIDS but almost all problems that world faces today can come to an end if we inculcate spirituality in young ones. Pope Benedict said that HIV AIDS should be controlled with abstinence only.
AIDS has posed a formidable challenge to our already tested norms of ethics and standard of our medical profession in particular. The American Medical Association (AMA) and The British Medical Association (BMA) (1986) resolved that:-“Here are no circumstances where treatment and care to an HIV infected person may be refused.”
International Code of Medical Ethics / World Medical Association:-
“The international code of medical ethics said: “The health of my patients will be my first consideration” (Geneva –September 1948.)
The one with AIDS do not expect miracle to happen. They don’t expect some philanthropists. They donot expect you to provide new drugs. But they expect you to treat them just like any other human being with human dignity, human compassion, and empathy and understanding – FREE from stigmatization and discrimination….
“They just need the spirituality in you to get sprinkled over them”.
Spirituality is the answer for their fear and illness.
